Hi.

[Please notice that there is a file attached to this email. You can't open it, but you will use it in step #3.]

Thanks for ordering the book. Here is how to install the premium edition of the software (do these steps EXACTLY and in order):

1. If you have not done so already, install the basic edition on your computer. Remember the location of the installation folder. While you are free to choose the installation location, you should accept the default location (C:\musarch) unless you understand Window's UAC and have a good reason to change the folder location. Musarch places everything (programs and data files) in one folder, and some versions of Windows prevent you from writing data to certain folder locations. If you haven't run the basic edition of the software yet, run it once now before you proceed to step 2.

2. Download and install the premium edition update from the web site (http://www.musarch.com). Install it to the same location that you selected in step 1. The password is icbiatwtas

3. Save the attached file (Notes.TPS) to that same installation folder, replacing an existing file with the same name. If Windows does not warn you that you are going to overwrite a file, something is wrong. Note that when you save an attachment, Windows does not choose the correct folder location automatically - you need to specify your Musarch installation folder before actually saving the file.

User name is admin

Password is admin

If you get an invalid login message, go back and carefully do step #3 again. It is likely you did not save the attached file to the correct location.

If you get a file structure error (47), use the Runtime File Manager to fix the Document table (this only happens if you install the premium edition on top of the basic edition without ever running the basic edition).

Feedback is appreciated.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks again,

Jim

PS be sure to view the QBE (Query by example) video on the web site to help you get the most out of this tool.

I recently conducted two webinars on using the built-in static web site generator. Here is a PDF containing the slides that I used in the first session:

You can click on a control in your browser to view the video in full-screen mode. I hope you find them helpful.

Here is one example of a museum collection posted online using the software: http://www.strathclairmuseum.com/collections/
